Design Cypher

ACC Unified Government removed the Confederate Monument on College Avenue in August of 2020. In response, Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM) has been asking Athens community members to reimagine the temporary Pedestrian Plaza as a racially inclusive and accessible public space. This campaign for change within the built environment was largely inspired by the years of AADM organizing to remove the monument and the I Wish This Was participatory public art project by Candy Chang.
On March 14, 2021, AADM members will be hosting an informal Design Cypher, an interactive brainstorming event focused on gathering feedback at the plaza on College Avenue in a safe, socially distanced manner. Ideas will be shared and voices will be heard. AADM invites the general public to participate and voice their opinions from 3-5 PM. AADM is especially interested in involving youth, as they signify the future of Athens. Masks are required for entry. Social distancing will be in effect.
