Mission
The aim of the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM) is to dismantle patterns of discrimination and systemic racism by promoting fair policy reforms, opposing mass incarceration, and challenging historically detrimental practices that have impeded the progress of people of color.
The AADM raises awareness about the adverse effects of racism in educational institutions, the criminal justice system, and the corporate world while also pushing for practical solutions. In pursuit of this goal, the AADM provides advocacy support, mentors at-risk youth, and conducts “Know Your Rights” workshops, trainings, and programs designed to empower people of color. We strive to cultivate constructive societal transformation.
Vision
Founders of the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement envision a world where all races are treated equally, enjoy resources, and receive equitable opportunities. We hope to make a positive impact on humanity and break racial barriers that can harm or limit one’s potential. We aim to create a more inclusive environment for all so we can live in a world where everyone is treated with dignity and racial and cultural differences are not just tolerated, but celebrated.
Objectives:
- To advocate for racial and social equity and work towards breaking the cycle of discrimination
- To educate and help citizens protect their civil rights through education and activism
- To combat police misconduct, discrimination, and harassment against people of color, particularly Brown and Black people
- To organize community activities and events that encourage diversity, open communication, and improved race relations
- To bring awareness to systemic racism and develop programs, initiatives, and strategies that can positively change the circumstances and conditions
