To address the financial pressure that comes with criminal charges, incarceration, and sentencing, the AADM provides assistance to juveniles and adults who cannot pay fees and fines associated with their legal cases. Being poor in America has become a crime and everyday citizens are being incarcerated or retained in jail because they do not have the cash to pay bail, fines, or legal fees. To reform the justice system, one of the key components is to address the economic inequities and eliminate cash bail.
We also understand that being incarcerated or pleading guilty can lead to a loss of employment and housing in addition to exacerbating other issues. For a single parent, this may even mean losing children and falling deeper into debt. Thus, the AADM addresses this issue by providing financial support for costs connected to their legal cases on a case-by-case basis. This includes bonds, probation fines/fees, court-mandated class and workshops, drivers’ license reinstatement fees, and temporary, transitional housing.
