Grand jury declines to indict Athens teacher-Tatum Brockton accused of placing student Jaden Barnett in chokehold.

On behalf of the Barnett family, the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement is hosting a rally in support of Jaden Barnett on May 9th, 2024, 6-7PM at the Athens CourtHouse 325 E Washington St. to demand justice for Jaden Barnett.

On November 30th, Jaden was placed in a chokehold by his teacher, Brockton Tatum, at W.R. Coile Middle School. Unfortunately, the grand jury issued a “No Bill of Indictment” meaning that the criminal charges against Tatum Brockton were dismissed because there was not enough evidence to warrant a criminal prosecution. Despite the video evidence, the physical and emotional distress caused by this incident, it seems Mr. Tatum will not be held accountable in the court of law.
