5th Annual Athens MLK Day Parade and Music Fest
2022 Theme “We cannot walk alone.”

Athens, GA – Join us January 17th, 2022 at 2PM for the 5th Annual Athens MLK Day Parade and Music Fest, brought to you by the United Group of Artists Music Association (UGAMA) and the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM). Parents, children and organizations are invited to attend. In addition to honoring the civil rights leader Martin Luther King, each year organizers Knowa and Mokah Johnson’s goal is to unify and promote a more diverse and inclusive community and break racial barriers. The line-up will begin on Hull and Washington Street in front of Morton Theatre; all participants should arrive by 2pm, and will be lined up on Washington Street as they arrive. The vendors set up at 1pm, and the parade will begin at 3pm. 

Main stage and live performances will be held on Hull/Washington Street. Activities will be held at the Manhattan, Word Famous, and Little Kings Shuffle Club (more details coming soon).

What to expect:

  • 12:30pm Vendors set-up 
  • 2pm Parade participants check-in in front of Morton Theater (195 W. Washington St, Athens, GA 30601).
  • 3:00 Parade Begins (on the corner of Hull and Washington Street). Parade participants/walkers must have 5 participants minimum per group. Participants are encouraged to make signage that represents the theme. 
  • 3:30 pm Music Fest-Block Party.

The Athens Anti-Movement (AADM) has been a vital force in promoting the philosophies and goals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Athens-Clarke County community by advocating for equal justice, opportunity, and economic advancement for all persons. Each year following the parade, organizers collaborate to honor Athens’ African American elders who paved the way. 

United Group of Artists is a leading force in producing live music shows, concerts, and urban events. This includes the Athens Hip Hop Awards, Athens in Harmony, the MLK Day Parade and much more.
