AADM & GA Conflict Center to host community screening of “On These Grounds”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement and the Georgia Conflict Center are co-sponsoring a community screening of On These Grounds, a documentary that examines policing in schools. The documentary screening will begin at 5 pm on Tuesday Oct 24 at Athens Regional Library and light refreshments will be provided.

The event is free but online registration is requested in advance. “Some of the content is hard to watch. But we all need to be aware of what can happen and discuss the role of policing in schools” says Mokah Johnston, AADM founder. Georgia Conflict Center head Danny Malec agrees that this screening is hard but good for the community to view together because “many of us understand why officers are present in schools and still we need to know that our kids will not receive more violence from the systems tasked with preventing or stopping it.”

The screening will be followed by a local panel that, along with community members, will explore both issues and potential solutions to the risks of policing in schools.

Community members should register for the discussion beforehand by filling out this form. Registration links can also be found on Georgia Conflict Center at gaconflict.org or both organizations’ social media platforms.
