AADM Discussion: Slavery and Symbols of Confederacy

Athens,GA-It’s time to acknowledge our history of slavery, confederacy, and racial inequality within Athens and throughout American history. Join the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement January 4th, 2019, 12:30 pm at UUFA for the AADM Welcome Back 2020 community meeting and discussion. 
Special guest panelist will talk about the history in relation to slavery, Confederate symbols, as well as how they influence modern day racism.  There will be a specific focus on how these topics relate to Athens and how community members can get involved in social justice initiatives. 

This important discussion will be lead by James Woodall, Preacher, Political Analyst, and Army Veteran, and the President of the Georgia NAACP. Dr. Scott Nesbit, Assistant professor of digital humanities at the University of Georgia’s College of Environment and Design and slavery and Civil War Historian, and representatives from the Southern Poverty Law Center Whose Heritage? Project. 

Attendees will have an opportunity to network and learn more about the AADM upcoming projects, new programs, and 2020 agenda.
