End the School-to-Prison Pipeline Conference 2023

Athens, Georgia-The End School to Prison Pipeline Conference will be held April 29th, 2023, 10:00 am -5:00 pm at the Classic Center, 300 N Thomas Street, Athens, GA 30601. This is a unique opportunity for educators, policymakers, and community leaders to learn about effective strategies together and combat the school-to-prison pipeline. A team of experts will lead discussions on how to dismantle the pipeline, promote healthy and positive classroom relationships between students and teachers, and share the benefits of restorative practices in juvenile justice. We will also discuss the importance of gang prevention and how to empower youth to make positive life choices.

Johnson states, “As an academic and activist, I have conducted extensive research on the school-to-prison pipeline and identified the need to address this issue through restorative justice practices in the school and the juvenile justice system. We need support from the community, parents, and youth empowerment activities. This is why I am proud to announce the return of the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM) End School to Prison Pipeline Conference, which will offer solutions to this critical issue.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from various speakers, meet with like-minded individuals, and participate in interactive workshops. Special guest speakers include Shane Sims from People Living in Recovery, Janice Jerome from the Georgia Conflict Center, Mike Tafelski from the Southern Poverty Law Center, Maria Pinkelton from Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities, and ACC Solicitor General William Fleenor.

The cost is $50 for general admission, $25 for college students, and FREE for 18 and under (K-12). This is a two-part event.
