Young Athenians share feelings about marching against gun violence in D.C.

The student-led March For Our Lives anti-gun-violence demonstration last month in Washington made a deep impression on the nation — and on a group of young Athens-Clarke County citizens that made the sojourn to the nation’s capital.

On Tuesday afternoon at the Athens-Clarke County Library, eight participants spoke of their experience at a meeting of the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement’s Teen Social Justice Meetup.

“To me, these are the future Freedom Riders,” said Mokah-Jasmine Johnson, president of the AADM and organizer of the Washington trip. For 18-year-old Elijah Massicot, the effect of gun violence isn’t just something he’s seen on television.
