For Immediate Release: April 3, 2018

The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement-Civil Rights Council Joins ‘Ciné Action For Diversity & Inclusion’ Initiative

Athens, Ga- On February 28, 2018, a former Ciné employee submitted a complaint through AADM website. Upon receiving this complaint, AADM Civil Rights advocates contacted Ciné’s management team and since that time have been working with both parties to mutually resolve this complaint.  After several meeting with Ciné, AADM President Mokah-Jasmine Johnson is delighted to announce that the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement Civil Rights will collaborate with Ciné to provide guidance and support for ongoing Diversity & Inclusion initiatives.

Ciné’s Board President and Executive Director state that they were very disappointed to hear that a previous employee had a negative experience at Ciné. “Diversity and inclusion are core to our mission, and Ciné will continue working towards creating a diverse, warm and welcoming environment for all. We’re committed to this for our business and for the community.”

Mokah states that AADM is delighted to assist both the complainant and Ciné’s executive team with addressing and resolving this issue (updated 4/6). “I only wish more business owners were willing to listen and work towards creating a more inclusive workplace and environment where all feel welcomed. AADM is committed to helping all organizations make continued progress on diversity and inclusion.”

On Wednesday, April 11th, AADM will begin by offering Diversity and Inclusion Training at Ciné to staff and board members. Various organizations within the local community that would like assistance or general guidance in cultivating a truly diverse and inclusive work environment are also welcome to attend this training session.

During this workshop, attendees will openly discuss thoughts or ideas on ways we can work together to create a cohesive work environment where all employees feel comfortable and empowered to discuss diversity and inclusion.
