Athens Townhall on Community Policing, Race Relations and Safety-Sept 13

Athens Town Hall Meeting on Community Policing, Race Relations and Safety presented by Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM)

Thursday, September 13, 2018

5:30-7:30 pm

Athens Regional Library 2025 Baxter Street Athens, Georgia. 30606.

Given the recent incidents involving Timmy Patmon who was struck by an Athens Clarke County police vehicle during the pursuit of his arrest on June 1, 2018 and a 10-year-old boy who was restrained on July 20, 2018 during his father’s arrest, various residents and community leaders are concerned that Athens Clarke County police officers are not doing enough to build trust, ensure safety, or implement de-escalation tactics when engaging with the black and brown community.

September 13th, 5:30pm, AADM will bring law enforcement officials and the community together to engage in a productive dialogue to help lead to improved mutual understanding, prevention of police misconduct and increased trust of community policing. Residents and police will talk frankly about race relations, community policing, safety and the recent incidents involving Athens-Clarke County police.

Concerned citizens will have an opportunity to provide their feedback on local policing, in advance, through an online survey. This event will include a discussion panel and audience Q&A session. Guest panelists include Chief Freeman, Shane Sims-ACCPD Chaplin, and Mr. Collins (father of the 10-year-old son referred to above), and will be facilitated by Mokah-Jasmine Johnson, President of AADM. Thank you to our supporters ACLU, A4E, and Economic Justice Coalition.

This is an opportunity to listen and for everyone’s voice to be heard. For more information, email jasminejohnsonedu@gmail.com. Click here to RSVP.
